Mammatus clouds

Mammatus cloud characteristics:

Here in the U.S., cumulonimbus are the variety of mammatus clouds we typically see. When they occur, it’s usually a sign of a particularly strong storm or maybe even a tornadic storm to come. Due to the intensely sheared environment in which mammatus form, aviators are strongly cautioned to avoid cumulonimbus with mammatus.
