Crash leads to fire, outages

July 13, 2018, 2:10 p.m.

OPPD is on the scene of a crash near 16th and B St. in Omaha, in which a large truck hit a utility pole. The impact broke the pole, knocking it down onto an apartment complex. That sparked a fire. Douglas County 911 notified OPPD of the situation at noon.

OPPD had to de-energize the area in order to allow firefighters to safely extinguish the flames. This has impacted 265 customers between the boundaries of: B St. (north) and Q St. (south), form Gibson (east) to 28th St.

We do not yet know when we will be able to restore power, as first responders are still working at the scene. Even after the scene is safely secured, our crews will have much repair work to do. We currently have one troubleshooter and a three-man crew on-site.

We will provide updates here as we learn more. Please stay clear of this area for your safety and so that police, firefighters and utility crews can complete their work safely.
