Traffic light outages are joint effort between OPPD, city

Monday morning commuters are running into flashing traffic signals, so caution is urged while driving.

Traffic lights switch to flashing mode when they receive a surge in power, sending them into protection mode. When this happens, the city has to go out and reset them at the controller, said Steve Fanslau, director, Customer Services Government Infrastructure at OPPD.

When the light is completely dark, OPPD crews have to go to the power source and make repairs, Fanslau said.

Law enforcement officials remind motorists to treat flashing lights as four-way stop signs.
