The Sunday snow storm is causing power outages across the metro area, and this includes numerous traffic lights. Caution is urged while driving. Law enforcement officials remind motorists to treat traffic lights as four-way stop signs when they are out or flashing.
Traffic lights switch to flashing mode when they receive a surge in power, sending them into protection mode. When this happens, the city has to go out and reset them at the controller, said Steve Fanslau, director, Customer Services Government Infrastructure at OPPD.
When the light is completely dark, OPPD crews have to go to the power source and make repairs, Fanslau said.
