Power outages

All remaining power outages were restored overnight.

2 a.m., July 6:  Outage numbers are down to 100 at this time. Our crews continue to work to restore the customers who remain out.

11:15 p.m., July 5:  Our crews made a lot of headway this evening, restoring power to nearly 7,000 customers impacted by thunderstorms with strong wind gusts across several counties. At this time, approximately 431 customers are still without power. Our crews will work through the night to bring power back to customers as quickly as safely possible. We know it’s not easy being without power or sleeping in this heat. Thanks for your patience while we complete our work.

9:55 p.m.  We are down to 533 power outages remaining at this time, as our crews continue their restoration work. Most of those are in the Omaha metro. Some of the quick progress we made this evening, following a wind-driven storm, includes:

  • As of 9:39 p.m., power was restored to 1,040 customers in the Ashland area who were impacted by a tree that blew into a power line near S. 10th & Birch St. They had been in the dark since 7:56 p.m.
  • Power was restored to most customers in southeast Omaha, from Leavenworth to Grover St., between 9th and 26th St. Nearly 2,400 customers in that area lost power at 7:31 p.m. due to the wind knocking down a power line. At this time, 126 customers on this circuit are still without power until we can make final repairs. We estimate all customers will be back online by 2 a.m., barring any unforeseen problems.
  • OPPD troubleshooters found wires knocked down by trees near 20th and Poppleton Ave. in Omaha, which is what caused 2,382 customers to lose power in that area at 7:31 p.m. Most had power back before 10 p.m. However, approximately 150 remain without power until final repairs can be made. Estimated restoration time is 2 a.m. or sooner, barring any unforeseen problems.

Thanks to our customers for their patience as we work through a large number of weather-related power outages this evening. If you are without power and have not reported your outage, please do so online at OPPD.com, via the OPPDConnect app or by calling 1-800-554-OPPD (6773).

9 p.m.   OPPD troubleshooters found wires had been knocked down by trees near 20th and Poppleton Ave. in Omaha. This is the cause of the circuit outage impacting 2,382 customers between Leavenworth St. (north) and Grover St. (south), between 9th St. and 26th St. They lost power at 7:31 p.m.

Our crews are working to restore power to customers by switching the circuit over to another power source, while waiting for help getting the power line back up. We estimate all but 150 of these customers will have power back by 10 p.m.

The remaining customers will be without power until we complete repairs. The estimated time for this is 2 a.m., barring any unforeseen problems.

9 p.m.   Outages are down to 4,700 at this time, as our crews continue restoration work. Most of those still without power are in Douglas and Saunders counties, followed by Sarpy County, Cass County and Washington County.

8:30 p.m.  OPPD crews have restrung the fallen power line at 108th & Rainwood Rd. in order to restore power has been restored to 1,741 customers in the area.

Work continues to restore power in other portions of our service territory following a brief, but strong storm cell that rolled through earlier this evening. Our crews are mainly seeing damage caused by wind, as well as tree interference with power lines because of the wind.

We’ve got additional crews coming in to support those already responding to these power outages. And we will work as quickly as safely possible to bring power back to all impacted.

8 p.m.  Our crews are responding to thousands of power outages, following strong wind gusts in portions of our service territory. Currently, nearly 7,000 customers are without power.

We are working on finding the cause of the latest circuit lockout, impacting 1,040 Ashland-area customers between Furnas St. (north) and Dale St. (south), from 2nd St. & Hwy 6 to County Rd. S. These customers lost power at 7:56 p.m. A troubleshooter is en route to learn more.

A different circuit lockout is impacting 2,382 customers in southeast Omaha. These customers are between Leavenworth St. (north) and Grover St. (south), between 9th St. and 26th St. They lost power at 7:31 p.m. Our troubleshooters are patrolling the area, looking for the cause. We do not yet have an estimate for when power will be back on in this area.

In addition, our crews are responding to a circuit lockout that is impacting 1,741 customers in northwest Omaha. These customers are within the boundaries of County Rd. 38 (north) and Hartman Ave. (south), from 96th St. to 138th St. They lost power at 7:04 p.m. The cause of this outage is a downed power line near 108th & Rainwood Rd. Our crews are on-site to put the wire back up. We hope to have power restored in this area by 9:30 p.m., barring any unforeseen problems.

If you should encounter a downed power line, always treat it as if it is live, high-voltage and extremely dangerous. Stay far back and call 911 or OPPD at 1-800-554-OPPD (6773) to report the hazard.

OPPD restored another circuit lockout that had left 1,481 customers without power from between Giles Rd. (north) to I-80 (south), from 158th to 190th St. These customers lost power at 6:47 p.m. when winds blew a net into power equipment. Their power was back by 7:33 p.m.

If you are without power and have not reported your outage, please do so online at OPPD.com, via the OPPDConnect app or by calling 1-800-554-OPPD (6773).

7:30 p.m., July 5

We have more than 5,500 power outages scattered throughout several counties. It is likely many of these are related to storms that rolled through portions of our service territory.

We staffed additional troubleshooters and other crews ahead of the weather, so we would be ready to respond in the event of outages. And our team is doing just that, working to determine the varying causes of the service disruptions in order to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

We will post more information here as we learn it. Meantime, if you are without power and have not reported your outage, please do so online at OPPD.com, via the OPPDConnect app or by calling 1-800-554-OPPD (6773).
