We’re nearing the end of our customer restorations after last week’s record-shattering blizzard outage, but work will continue behind the scenes long after it’s over.
We still have about 2,000 customers who need to be restored, and our 1,000-plus-member team is out in those areas right now burying new poles and restringing wire. They’ll keep at it until the job is done.
We had a peak of 106,681 customers out in the middle of the blizzard, which means about 98% of customers are now restored.
After we finish restorations, we’ll keep plugging away with cleanup and all the necessary post-storm paperwork and logistics. We’ll also return full-time to all the routine maintenance, construction, planning and customer service work we handle every day. Our power plants will keep generating reliable, affordable electricity just as they did through the entire outage.
This blizzard was the fifth-largest customer outage in our history and the biggest in terms of damage to OPPD infrastructure. We replaced 1,381 utility poles. For context, during the largest outage in our history in late July 2024, we replaced a total of 433 poles after hurricane-force winds devastated the region.
Thank you again for your patience and support. We’re still working diligently to restore those final customers. If you have any questions at all about your outage or you need to report that your power is out, please contact us online, via our OPPDConnect app or by calling 1-800-554-OPPD (6773).
