OPPD resumes normal operations after weekend storms

5 p.m., Aug. 12, 2025

Good afternoon. We’re happy to report that we’ve restored power to all customers affected by this weekend’s severe storms.

Early this morning, crews continued restoration work for a very small remaining handful of customers who were still without service (there were 65 at 10 p.m. last night). At the peak of the storm, we counted nearly 40,000 without power.

Restoring the final few customers was particularly challenging, complex and time-consuming. But our crews kept working until every last customer had regained service.

This storm recovery was a team effort, of course, and we’d like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of our mutual aid partners and contractors, as well as your OPPD team, for their tireless work.

Thank you to Fremont Utilities; CSR out of Wichita, Kan. (PLC and Vector); RS Electric from Kansas City, Mo; Burns Electric from Des Moines, Iowa; Nebraska Public Power District out of Norfolk; LE Myers, one of our local contractors; Watts Electric from Waverly; High Voltage from Vernal, Utah; and Brink, from Rapid City, S.D. And of course, a huge thanks to our longtime tree crews from Asplundh and Wright Tree Service. We appreciate you all!
