OPPD crews had their hands full with power outage restoration Thursday after morning storms rolled through. And they are bracing for more storm potential overnight, likely around or after 3 a.m. We are watching conditions closely and will be ready in the event of more power outages.

You can take some simple steps to prepare for power outages, such as charging up your phones, laptops and other electronic devices ahead of time. Keep a flashlight by your bed, in the event you need it overnight. We will post outage restoration updates here, as needed.

10 p.m.  As of 9:25 p.m., our crews were able to switch over to another power source to restore power to all but 10 customers impacted by the below outage. That number is now down to two customers. Our team suspects there may be a bad underground cable, so troubleshooters continue to investigate in order to make any repairs that may be needed. (UPDATE: Final two customers’ power was restored at 1:25 a.m.)

6:30 p.m. Our crews are responding to a power outage imapcting 1,047 customers in the north central part of Omaha. The circuit serving them locked out at approximately 6:18 p.m. We have reports of a pole fire, which may be responsible. Those impacted are between Curtis St. and Binney St., between 84th St. and 63rd St. We have crews en route and will report updates as we learn more.

6 p.m. The majority of power outages caused by this morning’s thunderstorms have been restored. However, we’re bracing for more storm potential overnight. Forecasters are predicting showers, and the chance for more storms, in our service territory over night. They could arrive between midnight and 3 a.m.  We are watching conditions closely and will be ready in the event of more power outages.
